Stacker takes a look at the best rock albums of all time. These albums are not only perfect in their own right, but they were instrumental in solidifying rock as the sound of a generation.

The Doors’eponymous album is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. It is a psychedelic rock masterpiece that features rocking tracks like “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through (To The Other Side). The album also introduces the world to the shamanic genius of Jim Morrison.

David Bowie’s “Blackstar” is a conceptual masterpiece. It features three vocalists and a rock sound that is unmistakable. The album was released in the early 70s and spawned hits like “Here I Go Again” and “Black Hole Sun.”

“Alive!,” “Pink Floyd’s” “Dark Side of the Moon,” and “The Beatles’ Revolver” all laid the groundwork for later albums. The 1960s were a golden age for rock. There were dozens of perfect albums. The 1960s also saw a huge grunge explosion that challenged the golden age of rock and introduced instant classics from genre’s ‘Big 4′.
